In the SceneThe photographer is an observer of a scene and events in that scene. What happens when the photographer's presence intrudes on the scene? We experience a 'fourth wall break'. The imaginary wall that separates the scene from the audience and/or observer is traversed. This portfolio presents one of the most common and, for a photographer, the most disruptive of fourth wall breaks: the photgrapher's shadow appearing in the scene. But then, why shouldn't the observer be observed in the scene? This portfolio presents some of the artistic reasons for capturing what is so often ignored and/or avoided - the photographer's presence in the scene. |
